If you are handy, most flat screens are easy to take apart, with only a few circuit boards inside that are basically plug & play. They also are usually quite reasonably priced from sellers harvesting them out of TV's with a broken screen.
Do a little googling and often certain models have typical symptoms that are common and you will find advice on the fix.
