Request for a return

I received a request for a return from a buyer. He states the product he received is not as described in my listing. I do not accept returns. I sent him two messages asking him to provide more detail of why he claim the product he received is not as described in my listing and to provide me further proof. He has not responded to my messages. What should I do?

Thank you.

Did the return request come to you in a message from the buyer or a message from eBay saying a buyer has requested a return?

If it's from the buyer, you can ignore it for the time being.

If it's from eBay, you need to respond to the return request. You have 3 options:

1. Accept the return, pay for return shipping, refund the full amount to the buyer when you receive the item.

2. Accept the return, let the buyer keep the item, refund the full amount to the buyer.

3. Decline the return, the buyer will almost certainly ask eBay to step in and eBay will let the buyer keep the item, refund the full amount from your account, give you a selling defect.

If you do not respond to a return request through eBay, it will go to number 3. You do not want it to go to number 3.

When a buyer says an item is not as described, eBay will rule in their favor 99.9999% of the time. The potential reward is far outweighed by the potential damage to your account. You should seriously consider changing your policy to accepting returns. That way you will occasionally get the honest buyer who will pay for return shipping and save yourself some headaches like this.

ALWAYS be honest and exceedingly FAIR!

Returns is up to you.  Refunds, is not up to you... eBay can/will force you to refund.  Sorry, that's just the way it is.
