Refund to gift card

I received a refund back to a gift card I no longer have. How do I get the gift card numbers to use my money?

The last time I was refunded for a purchase made using an eBay gift card, the refund appeared as a line item at checkout with a box to check to apply the amount to a future purchase. No need to enter any card numbers -- once the card is used the first time, it can only be used with the same eBay account.
