There are 2 uses for a QR code on ebay.
One is for LOCAL PICKUP. The buyer will print out the message from ebay with the QR code (and 6 digit code). When the buyer goes to the seller to pick up the item, s/he presents the printed message from ebay along with CASH payment and the seller can either scan in the code or type in the 6 digit code into the ebay transaction. ebay then knows the buyer received the item since there is no shipping involved.
Two is for printing the shipping label. If the seller has no access to a printer, s/he can save the QR code to his mobile device, and show it to the postal clerk who can then print out the shipping label.
A QR code can be used a proof of delivery for local pick up sales.
A QR code can be used by a seller if they don't have a printer to print their shipping label.
When an item is listed as local pickup, the buyer is given a QR code to take to the seller as proof that they are the buyer, and that the seller can scan as proof that the item was taken away by the buyer. The seller must use the mobile app to scan or enter the 6 digit QR code. If the seller does not have eBay's Mobile App, then the QR code can not be used, and the old fashioned proof of pickup, like a signature on an invoice, would be used instead.
