Why do we need a payment method stored in order to bid? I have gift cards I want to use but that’s not an option! We had our PayPal stored previously but the other day I ordered from a seller who lets you bid on multiple items then combines shipping but EBay automatically checked me out! Each item separately! I didn’t want that at all and wanted to pay with my gift cards! What is happening??

ebay opted all sellers into auto-pay, but sellers can opt out.  When a buyer places a bid or makes a Best Offer, ebay asks for an auto-pay method if the buyer ends up the winner or the seller accepts the Best Offer.  The charge will automatically be made, but the buyer has 1 hour in which to change the auto pay method originally selected (because not all methods can be selected at the time).  ebay did this to try and decrease the number of unpaid transactions.

If you plan to make multiple purchases from the same seller, and the seller gives a discount for combined shipping, use the CONTACT SELLER link and let him/her know your plans, and request that s/he opt out of auto pay.
