Payapl only payments

So I've come across a few items that the sellers are saying they are doing PayPal payment only. But they're not doing it through eBay. To me, that seems a bit odd. Am I right or wrong? Should I look at that as a scam?

The golden rule of eBay transactions is, if the item is for sale on eBay it can be purchased on eBay. Sellers who sell outside of eBay violate seller policy, they also loose their seller protections too

If a seller is demanding the buyer pay outside of eBay's checkout process, that is not allowed and is often the first step in defrauding the buyer unless the item is a local pickup item being paid for at pickup.
