Number sold changed from over 8000 to 800

On one of my very successful listings my number of items sold changed from over 8000 to 800.  I have called for assistance and they said that number of sold items is reset every 90 days.   Since when did this happen????

You can only see the last 90 days of sales, but the total sold doesn't get reset.  At least it never did while I was selling.

This is 282096843618, right?  I am trying to remember if deleted variations get removed from the total?  I know it isn't documented anywhere.  Do you delete variations?

The number of units sold is not reset every 90 days. (I have many example items that disprove that.)

Out of curiosity, what is the item # in question?

I was thinking - is there any way that it went over 10,000?  I'd be willing to be the item sold field can't handle 5 digits.
