Need to change shipping to fixed price on active listing

The site will not allow this....scaring off buyers as I need to add fixed price for shipping.

Unfortunately bids have already been made on that item.  Once bidding starts very little on an auction listing can be changed.  Current bidders relied on what the listing said at the time of bidding so eBay does not allow any major changes to the listing once bidding starts.
