In November last year a scammer opened a 'shop' using my account. He was selling non-existant autos and is apparently notorious on ebay. Over one weekend I received approx two thousand emails from buyers. About a dozen people warning me it was a scam and that I had been hacked. Many had sent money and were concerned about lack of reply from the seller. Initially I was able to connect with an actual person who reacted well and helped me to stop the activity. I then received emails asking for the insertion fees for the items. I again managed to speak to an ebay person who told me to ignore the demands for insertion fees which continued to be demanded by ebay. Then my account was suspended. The last two months has been a nightmare of wasted time and frustration. It seems to me that ebay has lost control of customer service. Phone lines simply contain recorded message telling you to use the website to solve the problem. Chat line operators have no agency to help and barely understand the problem. All emails are 'do not reply to this email' It is a completely opaque and pointless exercise that is full of dead ends and circular journeys without resolution. Ebay should be ashamed of themselves.

For help with a hacked account, see here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/account/protecting-account/get-help-hacked-account?id=4196
There should be a contact link on that page specifically for account security issues and for dealing with fallout of a hacked account.
