Item received after being reimbursed

I received an item almost six weeks later after it was mailed.  I was reimbursed by Ebay assuming that the item was lost.  Now the sender is asking me to return the item, but before I do this I want to ask if the sender might have also been reimbursed for this item, if that's even possible.

You should return the item to the seller.  They are out the item and the money.  You have the item and the money.

It's possible that they filed an insurance claim but there is no way to check on that.

eBay forces the seller to refund and the seller is not protected by eBay in these cases.  Only the buyer is protected.
