Italian Post tracking code

I bought a product from Italy on eBay. When I made the purchase, I selected shipping with tracking. On "Poste Italiane" with the tracking code provided by the seller "5IVC1111111111" (I put 1 in place of the digits to maintain confidentiality) it says "La spedizione e' in stato di lavorazione" (The shipment is in a state of processing). I don't think it was even sent to the Italian Post Office, just a shipping label was generated for the Italian Post Office; what do you think? It has not been updated. And this code is also not trackable on international tracking websites; does anyone know how to convert this Italian code to an international code?
