I was previously scammed by an ebay buyer so I am wary. My Acer Chromebook is listed and I received a request from a buyer that I message them off the ebay site to a phone number and if I accept their $500 offfer they will pay me immediately. The following makes it seem fishy to me: 1) A new Chromebook of the type I'm selling is half that and a new premium is not much more than the $500 he's offering and mine is from 2017. 2) He wants me to text him and not message within the ebay site. 3) He just signed up for ebay today.
Is my "spidey sense" correct? Am I going to be scammed if I contact him?

They will try to scam you of course - the text request is the start, then it goes from there to fake paypal payments, etc.
Stop communicating with them, block their ID and wait for the next scam offer.
They go after new accounts with zero feedback hoping to trick you.

Yes, that is the start of a scam. Never communicate with a prospective buyer outside of the eBay messaging system. They want you to call or email or text them so they get your number/email address to send you a fake payment message.
