So - I have a question that probably has been asked many times before, but I don't seem to get a clear answer through EBay's documentation.
When it comes to free insertions - what is considered an insertion? Are we talking about ACTIVE auctions that I have running or is it TOTAL ACTIONS including auto-relisting?
Example: If I have 50 auctions and they all auto-relist after 7 days - does this mean I have only used 50 of my free insertions or have I used 100 due to the relistings?

It is difficult to give an exact answer with auction format listings. New and infrequent sellers get 8 free relisitngs with auctions, meaning they do not use an insertion when they relist. There is no clear definition of when the free relistings stop, but I have seen sellers stop getting them when they cross the 100 items sold mark. Once you no longer receive the free relistings, then each auction will use an insertion each time you relist it.
You need to watch the free insertion counter on your seller home page. On days when you have no new listings but do have some auctions relist, check the counter to see if you are using insertions for the relistings.
Fixed price items are easy to define - each uses an insertion when first listed, and then once per month when it renews, until it is sold or cancelled.
