If sellers making under $5,000 aren't receiving a 1099, can we subtract $5,000 from our 1099?

Basically, title. If people making under $5,000 aren't getting a 1099 that they are going to file on their taxes, would that mean we can cross off the first $5,000 on our 1099s?

I'm going to ask our tax person, but trying to get info from a community that knows ebay rules as well.

No,no,no!

The first $5000 is not like tax free .

You only pay taxes on any profit you make.

@stufftosell2002

You are obligated to self report all of your earnings when you do not receive a statement like a 1099 (or W2, etc).

Not receiving a 1099k does not excuse you from paying tax on any profit that you made - this year or in past years.
