I sold some thing and my inventory was off . So I sold 2 and only had one . I am trying to return half of the amount and ebay because I couldn't talk to any one cancelled the order.

Before you do anything, message the buyer and make sure they want just 1 of the 2. If not, then cancel the order as 'I can't complete the transaction' and that will send the buyer a full refund.

You can't cancel just part of an order, so if the buyer does want the 1, go to your sold list and select 'send refund' to send a partial refund.  Don't forget to refund part of the shipping, if there was a charge for the second item.

Did you ask if buyer will take only one?  It is buyer's choice whether to cancel all or take a partial refund.  Use either the CANCEL or  REFUND button in the drop down menu next to the item.
