I have returned an item and told I would receive my refund when the item is delivered.

The tracking number shows that the item was delivered and ready for pickup at a post office.  I still have not received a refund.  What happens if the seller never picks up the item since it is so badly damaged it is of no value to anyone.

The seller has 2 days for issuing a refund.

Ask eBay to step in, if they don't do that.
