What do I do? I’m so far behind on my personal emails, and I didn’t even recall I had an expensive item listed for sale. When it sold 13 days ago I never saw that it had. Then the buyer challenged it and was refunded and I’ve been charged on my personal card a very large penalty for reimbursing eBay certain seller fees. I just learned about the whole thing, from the sale to the refund and penalty, right now, in the same moment.

I'm usually behind on my personal emails as well, but my selling account has it's own email address and I check the status of my ebay selling account at least twice daily for messages, watched, sold indications.

Apparently you did not read far enough into ebay's getting started selling, information to find out what happens when a seller does not complete a sale. Because you did not complete the sale ebay charged you the Final Value fees for your expensive item, which is still listed in case you did not know it. In this case the fees were probably over 15%

FYI you probably do not know about the payment hold ebay places on new sellers first few payments as well. You had better read up on the holds as well, and talk to your banker about how long the bank will hold the funds when the transfer is made to your account.
