How to update tracking number

Hi, I used a seller's return label on my package, but when I arrived at the post office they said the First Class shipping label is not enough to pay for the return package. So I paid out of pocket. How to I enter in the new tracking number to replace the old label's tracking number that's already in the system?

Sorry to loop you in on this one BUT if memory serves eBay has a special Return label rate they negotiated with USPS AND regardless of the label type (First Class per the OP's situation or Priority) USPS is supposed to ship the package back to the Seller and work out the cost with USPS?!?  This goes back a ways but I recall posts here on The Community about this ... can you please check with the department that handles that and confirm WHAT the return label arrangement is between USPS & eBay?!?

@unboxed.watches   I have never used the eBay return flow so I am not sure BUT, you could check the return claim to see if there is a place to add / update tracking ... if there isn't (and if it were me) I would call eBay.

You should be able to Request a call back from them.

Request a call back from an agent from the options on the left side of this linked page, as they will have to add it for you:

Did you notify the seller that you had to buy a label, as when that happens eBay can't force a refund on that part - it will be up to the honesty of the seller to make good on the return label for you.

If a First Class Return label was not accepted, it usually means the seller didn't have the correct package wt/dim set up in the their listing, as that's what eBay uses. Typically you should ask the seller to send you a correct return label.

Hey @mr_lincoln! For return labels we would issue out either a USPS first class ot Fedex depending on what the original shipping label was purchased through. In the case of returns like the one @unboxed.watches has the seller would put in there dimensions when purchasing the return shipping label. If there was a dimension that was entered incorrect or not filled in at all we would step in and try to use past sales of that item to see what the dimensions of the item is. When it comes to the return label not being correct where the buyer now cannot send the item back, they would need to reach out to the seller and let them know that the return label had the incorrect dimensions. From their if the buyer purchases the label on their own, they would need to work that out with the seller when it comes to reimbursement since eBay would not be able to do so. I would recommend that they have the seller send a new return label instead of buying their own whenever possible. If the buyer was to purchase a return label they would just need to provided the tracking number in a message to the seller since they would not be able to update it through the return claim itself.
