How to Split a Shipment Into Two Boxes

Seller purchased multiple fragile and heavy items, was told they would be shipped in two boxes. I sent her separate invoices because they were actually two separate sales, but eBay combined my invoices into one anyway and I have no way to fix it. Paid for shipping label (thought it was two because it was the total for both).

eBay customer service told me they can’t help me but that because I “messed up” I need to suck it up and pay twice for shipping to get my second label. Been selling since 1996 and have never had so much trouble.

I tried the suggested in Help answers for how to split a single order and it does not work (go to sale and select print another label; when I do that eBay says I have to pay for a second label that’s the same as the already-paid-for combined total shipping of my two sales).

If anyone has any suggestions, I would very much appreciate them. For now, I’m lucky I have a patient buyer who is being nice. I plan to try speaking with my local postmaster to see if they can assist, but I’ll most likely lose out on my eBay shipping discount.

How to Split a Shipment Into Two Boxes

When an order is split into two boxes, you do need to purchase and print a separate label for each, and each label will have a unique tracking code.

Did you get paid by the buyer for the postage for two shipments?

Enter the dimensions and weight for the first box and purchase a label. Then print another label for that sale, where you enter the weight and dimensions for the second box and print the second label. Both tracking numbers should appear on all items associated with the sale. If the buyer paid for two labels, then you should be fine.

Next, make sure to delineate (in a message) which items belong to which tracking number, and clearly mark your boxes "1 of 2" and "2 of 2".

If the postage label you printed does not match either of your boxes, then void the label. USPS will send a refund in a few weeks.
