How do I make it easy on buyers, so that they see no surprises in shipping cost?
I have an item that weighs almost 1 lb., unpacked.
Customers often buy several (2 to 4, quite often) units of the same item at the same time as I offer volume pricing. Say, someone buys 4 units which would be approximately 4 pounds, when packed and this is quite a significant difference in weight and thus cost.
Is there a way to ensure that the shipping cost to customer changes automatically, based on the # of units (same item) that the customer has bought? For this particular item, I could use the same size box (with only weight being different) up to a point, but the Medium Flat Rate USPS box would be too large! In that case, using USPS Parcel Select (AND a smaller size box) would actually be more economical.
Suggestions would be appreciated!

You use calculated shipping which is the weight of the item packaged , the location of the buyer, and the carrier. You can also combine ship.

To combine shipping before a buyer pays or how to combine shipping after a buyer pays.

Thanks. I know how to calculate shipping costs, but thought that "combining shipping" applied to a stituation where a buyer buys several different items, not several units of the same item.

I have always use Calculated shipping. I have a RULE to add the weights. It works regardless if the buyer purchases multiples of the same item, or different items.

Hi Disneyshopper.
How did you establish a rule? I think that would work well in my case.
Best!
