How can I see the number of hits on a search?

I used to be able to see the “number” of items that were returned from a search. That way I knew if I had to be more specific in my description. It also told me how many items I had to look through so that I could approximate the amount of time I needed to devote to looking at all of the items. I don’t see a number in the upper left-hand corner any more and I want to know why it is not there. Is this something that I did and have to reset? Or, is this an EBay ploy to keep me searching forever to get through all of the listings?  Please help. I am at a point in my business that I am looking to finish buying pieces to sets and this has driven me crazy lately.

What browser are you using?

When I search I see the number of search results displayed at the top of the page.

If you do not, try another browser. If the results are shown there, try clearing your cache and possibly manually delete your eBay cookies in the original browser.

If that does not help, try disabling your ad blocker; it is possible that an overly aggressive ad blocking rule can interfere with certain page elements.

I doubt eBay would remove such useful information from eBay search on purpose. I do not think that would help eBay sell more items or make more money. On the contrary, that would most likely cost eBay sales.

Sometimes my search results page doesn't display that number either.  I click my browser Refresh/Reload button and that usually fixes it.

Someone else responded and said that she, too, sometimes can’t see the number either. (As far as EBay is concerned, not knowing the number of hits to a search is making me go through ALL the listings.  Because I don’t know how many pages there are to the search, I’ve gone through 40-50+ pages thinking that the next page might be the end and it never is. A colossal waste of time. If I was a vendor and my listing was last, not having the search number displayed would be to my advantage; forcing buyers to go through all of the listings instead of revising keywords and descriptions for a better selection.  Not knowing if you need to go through 4 pages or 40 pages keeps you scrolling. You are more trusting than I am that EBay has my best interest at heart.)  🙂

I am under no illusions that eBay has your best interest at heart. eBay has eBay's best interest at heart. It is just that in certain situations your best interest and eBay's best interest coincide, particularly when it comes to allowing you to easily find and purchase items of interest.

If eBay calculated that hiding search results numbers would end up creating more sales, eBay would never display those numbers. But eBay does display search results numbers, and I fail to see how hiding those numbers is to eBay's benefit (or anyone else's benefit).

eBay does not make money if users get frustrated and go elsewhere, unless the remaining users spend even more.
