How am I supposed to improve my defect rate when eBay is handcuffing me?

I have a defect rate of 3.07.  one mistake, one eBay mistake that I did not catch, and two errors?  How can I improve when they are limiting my views, preventing me from selling in certain categories, and not allowing me to promote my listings.  I don't get it.  Like stealing the extra fee from me isn't enough?  Any advice?

Years ago, when I was a below standard seller, there were no promotions, and I was limited to listing 10 items per month, and I managed to get to above standard seller, but it took several months.  For the items I sell, it was difficult finding items to list but I managed.  $5.00 fixed price with free shipping.  My first month, I sold 7 items that first week.  Now I had to wait until the month was over before I could list more items.

You need to get sales up so the percentage of the defect is lowered.

Thanks.  I have been selling for 21 years.  This was a fluke that will never happen again.  The most frustrating thing is that eBay is ZERO help while taking extra money from you and skimming off of your profits.   Seems really stupid, why not let me have more access to selling while I try?  More money for them to skim off of the top.  Sincere thanks for the reply.
