Help with terminology

Greetings. What is the difference between open box and pre-owned. I am interested in buying a battery for my weed eater and they’re advertising preowned door open box.

Help with terminology

Generally open box means someone bought it and returned it, but not because it was defective.  The item was possibly used for a short period of time, depending on the seller's or the store's return policy. So more of a trial than heavy duty usage.

Pre-owned - a term I strongly dislike since 'used' is more precise - means an item has been used but still works as intended. You do not usually know how long the item has been in use.
