Handling a Customer demanding a reefund for an item returned not in original condition

I am a yarn seller.  All of my product is new.  I had a customer report that a yarn she ordered was too thin to work with due to arthritis, and she wanted to return it.  I was suspicious for some reason from the get go and when I received the returned item, all 4 balls were missing part of their packaging.  I also included a magazine as a thank you for the order that was not included with the return.  I reported the buyer to eBay, and the case was closed today without my being required to refund the buyer.  Apparently, the buyer also received the notification of the case being closed, and they are insisting on a refund.  The customer did admit to using one of the balls to test it, but they insist that the other three did include the ball bands.  Three had their manufacturer tags, but none had their ball bands.  I would like to talk to someone at eBay over this issue, but am having no luck getting into a chat, or getting them to call me.  I need them to intervene to stop this customer from continuing to hassle me over the refund.  Any suggestions?  It is a Saturday.  Could that be why I am getting nowhere with making a connection with eBay?
