I have been buying gift cards from ebay for as long as I can remember.
Suddenly the last two gift cards I purchased last week have accrued taxes totaling over 15 dollars (based on Texas rates)!
I called ebay last week and was told that they weren't sure why the system had charged me taxes and that I should expect to see a refund within 48 hours which was yesterday.
I called to follow up right now since I hadn't seen the money credited to my account and now I am being told that I need to file a tax exempt form to ebay in order for them to process my request but the representative I spoke to said she could not send me the form and that I would have to look for it myself on the ebay page.
This is such a hassle (I can't find the dang form or even know who I should send it to specifically) and so disappointing that the burden of their system's mistake should fall on me...has this happened to anyone recently and how did you resolve it?
Yesterday I checked if any of the other five gift cards I had purchased in the last 2 weeks had been taxed and they hadn't yet I went to check on what would happen if I bought a Starbucks gift card for for 20 dollars and it also wanted to charge me tax so I just cancelled that transaction all together.
As a bargain hunter I don't want this to keep happening to me...I hate having to call customer service only to be put on hold for long periods of time to just get the run around! Sadly, this will just deter me from buying on ebay at all but I would love to hear from anyone that has experienced and resolved this issue!

If they are listed in the wrong category they may be taxed.

So if that is the case then the seller is at fault?
what category should they fall under?

They should be listed under "Gift Cards & Coupons", but I've noticed some sellers list them under "Collectibles > Advertising", which would be wrong.
You can open any listing you're asking about and the Category will show in small font near the top.
