Hey anyone,
Pardon me if I'm a little slow, but I just noticed that fees are based on the TOTAL sale INCLUDING TAXES!!! How is that right? Why am I paying a fee on taxes!! I am not receiving money from the taxes. It's bad enough that we get charged fees on the shipping, but this really crosses a line. Anybody know how to start a petition to stop this crap? To charge us fees based on taxes is just plain greed.

eBay does not charge fees based on a seller's profits -- to do that, eBay would have to have all sorts of detailed accounting information about each seller's costs to acquire and actually deliver goods.
Instead, eBay charges a fee based upon the total amount the buyer pays. An amount which is readily accessible to eBay and which does not require the provision of any accounting details at all. Also an amount which is not subject to manipulation by the seller shifting costs around, such as by lowering item price and raising the shipping price.
Ultimately, it does not matter to the seller how eBay calculates its fee; the seller needs only to decide if the fee amount is too high or not.
eBay could choose to make a different calculation with a slightly higher percentage applied to only the item cost plus shipping and leave the sales tax amount out of the calculation. If eBay chose the right rate to use, you as a seller would pay the same total fee amount. Would that make any difference to you? If so, why?
