So I started my very first return. The seller was notified before I requested it so they knew to expect it. I simply told them it didn't read the discs so I was starting the return and refund process. After I filed the return and got the code to send it back, the seller became very rude and belligerent and is trying to say there was nothing wrong with it before they shipped. The system doesn't read discs, cases were not clean as shown in pictures, items had a foul odor, the box that it was shipped in was beat up, and it said it would ship FedEx and they sent it usps without saying anything to me. Not to mention, they took about a week to even respond after I bought and paid. I had to message multiple times about asking them to ship and they didn't respond until I said I was going to contact ebay in 2 days if I didn't hear from them. I never brought this up because they acted like it was a one man shop and they had a family emergency, which I could understand. Then they stated their warehouse had cameras and I realized they were not being honest in the beginning. I want to leave negative feedback but I'm scared to because I think they will give me negative in retaliation and my feedback does not have very many, so it will drop my percent drastically. I'm at 100%. Is there protection against buyers in this situation?

First, sellers are not allowed to leave negative feedback. The donut is only green and the comment only neutral. They can write a reply though, with comment you don't like. The good news: you don't have to leave feedback.
Second, I suggest to stop arguing. If the seller keeps making troubles, ask eBay to step in. After 3 business days you can.
So, keep it brief. The seller is responsible.

< I'm scared to because I think they will give me negative in retaliation >
That's exactly why eBay took away the ability of sellers to give their buyers negative feedback. By the way, that happened in 2008, ten years before your account was even created. If you'd like to see that stated in eBay's own words, you can go to: https://pages.ebay.com/services/forum/changes.html scroll down to #4.
