I wrote the forum a week ago about someone who wanted to return the watch because its clasp was beginning to tarnish after the fourth time she wore it. I accepted the return even though the watch was brand new, unworn, in the original green EcoCitizen box, in the original green EcoCitizen display container, and had all original manufacturer's documentation and factory warranty (the watch had been given to us to sell). I knew the buyer was lying but didn't know why. Following forum advice, I received the watch back, and there's no tarnish or any other problem with it, so the reason she gave for returning it was false. Worse, she returned the watch in a black Citizen container (not green EcoCitizen), included no exterior EcoCitizen box, and kept all documentation and warranty. Now, of course, I have a watch that's NOT new, NOT in its original box, NOT in its original container, and WITHOUT documentation and factory warranty. I filed a complaint with eBay and haven't heard back except for them to say I have to authorize the return of funds to the buyer by Wed. August 4. My question: Do I have any recourse? I had hoped they'd step in following my complaint and make good for the loss I'm taking on this exchange, not to mention the theft of property the buyer pulled. I may be grasping at straws, but it really irks me. The woman apparently had a Citizen watch and wanted the EcoCitizen packaging, documentation, and warranty so she could sell it or return it to Citizen or something. God knows what. Sorry to be ranting, but the thought of someone deliberately setting me up like that--and eBay not seeming to care--gets to me. Thanks for any input.

If you were a top rated seller with 30 day return policy, you could withhold up to 50% of the refund because the returned item was not as you shipped it, so the value has decreased. Therefore, you will have to refund the buyer in full, but you can use the REPORT A BUYER link to report the buyer for misusing ebay's Money Back Guarantee to get free return shipping and returning the item in a different condition that was sent.
