Ebay's Sportcard Authenticator Process

Two questions...

Why does ebay send a high value sports card that has been graded by a professional grading company to an authenticator center as the card has already been authenticated by the professional grading company?

If I insure a high value card through the USPS when shipping it to a buyer and ebay redirects it to an authenticator center, does the to an authenticator center re-insure the value of the card when they repackage it and sends it to the buyer?

Thank you,

  Rick

Ebay's Sportcard Authenticator Process

@rickfanc  I agree that I am confused as to why cards that are already authenticated by respected companies are required to be sent to be authenticated again.  Maybe eBay is afraid a bad seller will open the sealed slab ( good luck with that) then insert a fake card.

Be sure to use insurance and signature required for sales $750 or more when sent to the authentication center.

Then the authentication center will do the following:

If the item passes inspection, it will be shipped to the buyer with 2 day secure delivery. Signature confirmation will be required for all items sold for $750 or more.

If you want the cards to go to the authentication center then they must be sold to a buyer in the continental  US.

"Cards must be sold on ebay.com by a seller located in the continental US to a buyer located in the continental US"

This means you need to block other locations such as Hawaii, the US Protectorates and other countries.

You can set up your shipping preferences and buyer requirements in account settings.
1. Exclude shipping locations

2. Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a location I don't ship to AND block buyers with 2 or more unpaid in 12 months.

Ebay's Sportcard Authenticator Process

Thank you for the response.  I am glad someone else is confused as to why ebay is authenticating a card already authenticated by a grading company.

I understand the authentication center will ship the card to the buyer with 2 day secure delivery and require  signature confirmation for all items sold for $750 or more, but do they insure the card as I do with the USPS when I ship a high value card? If the card gets damaged or lost when sent to the buyer from the authentication center, is ebay responsible?

@rickfanc. Yes ebay is responsible for the card if it's lost or damaged in shipping from the authentication center to the buyer.
