Customers upset over new policy having to give pickup code on digital items sold

Is  anyone else having an issue with this? I used to be able to mark as picked up and never had a problem. I sell digital items, so, there's no in person meeting. It's making a ton of extra work for me and for customers. Recently, one of my most frequent buyers complained to me about it.

I mean, hey eBay, I won't be the only one losing business if they quit buying from me.

Of course, eBay "help" is no help

@d_a_dob  The problem is you are using Local Pick Up for a digital item.  That is NOT the correct listing method.

The only way to deliver to email per eBay policy is if you list as a Classified Listing which costs $9.95.  There are not any other selling fees when your item sells.  The listing fee is NOT refundable and paid even if the digital item doesn't sell.

Electronically delivered items such as digital items that you have the legal right to sell can only be listed in the classified section Everything else> information products.

Here's the policy: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/electronically-delivered-items-policy...

If you wish to create a classified listing you will need to switch to the Advanced Listing Tool that is located in Seller Hub.

Opt in to Seller Hub here: https://www.ebay.com/sh/ovw Start the listing here:

https://www.ebay.com/sl/prelist/suggest?sr=shstart

Select Classified from the drop down menu and then there will not be a shipping method required.

If you do not list this way the buyer can say they didn't receive digital item since you won't have tracking and you will have to issue a refund.   You also will be violating eBay policy if you don't list digital items this way and eBay may ban your account.

If you are not allowing local pick up, you should not list your items that way.

You cannot force a buyer to say that it was a local pick up when it was a digital download.

If you are doing local pick up to get around the download policy, you may have problems down the road with that.  I don't blame your buyer for being upset that you are forcing him to lie and say he picked it up.

@golfingaddict I'm not forcing anyone to lie. I'm saying he's upset that he now has to enter the digital code when he never had to before. I've been doing this for years, and eBay charges me for every listing. Almost all are around or under a dollar.

And, it's not a copy. It's the actual digital card that is traded through the Topps mobile app.  Feel free to visit my profile to look at my feedback. I've never had a problem.

Plus, there is this in the electronically delivered items:

***Exceptions to this policy include electronically delivered:

  • Tickets
  • Domain names
  • Digital trading cards  ***

There is no way that I would pay 9.95 to deliver a .59 cent digital card.

The only thing you can do is list with FREE SHIPPING and then if the buyer says they didn't receive it you would have to issue a refund.    There will be a code required as long as you keep using Local Pick Up.  Plus Local Pick Up on a digital listing is a policy violation.

You are violating this part of the Digitally Delivered Goods policy>

  • Local pickup is not allowed for electronically delivered goods

Your listing says "local pickup"

Your title says you use the local pickup code to prove delivery.

I stand by my statement.

There is no local pickup so the local pickup code should not be used.

It is digital delivery to be precise.

@d_a_dob   Here's how to use Bulk Edit to revise your listings and change to Free Shipping.

1. Go to this active listings page : https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active
2. Put a checkmark next to all items.
3. Select edit from the top of the list
4. Select all items again
5. Select edit fields on the upper left> shipping> edit and submit

You can not revise a listing that has bids, open offers, or less than 12 hours left on an auction.
