Customer return on a new unopened item

customer wants to return an unopened packaged

item. Claims that they can't see the text on a digital book. The book is brand new. I suggested that they put brand new batteries. They said they still can't see any text. Am I obligated to refund? It is now opened. Thank you!

Customer return on a new unopened item

Yes, if the item is defective, you must take the return.  There is no way to know a new item is defective until you open it - it does happen.

If the item is not defective, you can report the buyer for abusing the money back guarantee. If sold with no return, there is no monetary compensation, and you will only be able to send a full refund. Still, it is better to take the return than to have eBay refund from your funds and not require return, plus give you a defect for an unresolved case.
