Is it illegal for an individual to sell counterfeit items - such as purses and wallets?

I had some people ask me because they saw someone on an auction site post a "Dupe" purse.

It's a violation of federal law to sell counterfeit items (whether that fact is disclosed or not, or they are called knock-offs, replicas, inspired-by, dupe, or any other name that tries to soften the term counterfeit.) The penalty for doing so can be between 10-20 years in prison.
