A few item categories are qualified to go through eBay's authentication process, where an item is examined and is deemed "authentic" or "can not be authenticated".
eBay has no method of evaluating any other items listed on its site, so reports of counterfeits come from other members or from the rights holder. Most counterfeits arrive from China, are pushed through dropshippers, and are typically lower priced than the authentic items.
