 is it possible to ship this compressor without putting it in the box, just put the lable on it?

I doubt any carrier would accept that item for shipment without a box.  A moving company might accept it, just using moving blankets around it.  I would try listing it with Local Pickup first. Make sure you include your city/state in the title.

You said "the" box, not "a" box.  Do you have the original box for it?  Whether or not you have the original box, I'd advise padding, packing, and boxing it.
