Change email address, merge two accounts

I made the mistake long ago of signing into eBay with the "Login in with your Google Account" button that popped up.   Shame on me - I wasn't thinking.  That created a new account which I never used.  I now can't change the email address on my active account to my gmail address because it is already in-use.  Is there a solution or workaround for this? 

The ancient email address currently used in my active eBay account gets nothing but spam at this point so I just want to close that email account.

I want to keep my well-established eBay active account because I have many transactions and have 100% Positive feedback.  Starting fresh with 0 transactions and 0 feedbacks is not what I want to do.

Don't close the email account yet.  Close out the second ID - you will lose any history on it, since you can't merge 2 accounts together.  About 30 days after closure, you should be able to change this ID to your gmail account. 

You need to keep the email account current on this ID active until you make the switch.

Sign out of the ID you want to keep, sign into the one you want to close and use the link on this page -
