Since they moved topic to "Ask a Mentor"
cannot reply to replies.
Reply:
"If a listing is no longer on the site, it cannot be used to contact the seller.
Instead, go to the seller's feedback or profile page and use the "contact" link there. If prompted for an item number, instead of using an expired listing number, choose a current active listing of the seller
or else choose "not about an item".
None of those work.

Other things you can try:
Try another browser to rule out a browser issue.
Try contacting the seller through ebay.ca instead of ebay.com.
Try contacting the seller through one of the seller's current listings, if any.
Try contacting the seller using the eBay app.
If you have your eBay messages forwarded to your email, try replying to one of the seller's messages by replying to the email containing the message.

I think this is my best bet
but I am afraid it can scare sellers off.
Here's some for you.
Tell eBay the have a bug
Tell eBay to fix it
if you don't have a technical contact, why not.

You can do that yourself, you know. Since you seem to be the one having a problem contacting a seller, perhaps you should report it.
Many eBay pages have a "Tell us what you think" link or a "Feedback" / "Comment" / "?" link that can be used to report issues to page developers.

through "this is not an item"
just send "test"
if I get that message I will know what to do.

Contacted eBay by passing through unhelpful chat AI
seems its possible I may have been blocked
no way to tell
I will just have wait for the seller to surface with a new item
the error is a waste can error that could be caused by
A few things including blockage

I think if you had been specifically blocked by that seller the message would have been different.

the seller resurfaced with a new item
and I piggy backed my question on it.
