Buyer purchased a smartphone in great condition minus the flash being out. They asked me overnight the phone, because they were desperate. To be courteous, I paid the $40 to overnight the phone. Here's where things get interesting: I failed to mention the camera flash being out, because it is a common issue with these phones and I never used the flash. I offered the buyer a partial refund, which they denied. Now they want a return at my expense which would put me $40 plus $12 for shipping then my selling fees out the window. Not to mention, if the item failed to return in good condition (shipping damage, buyer damage), I am sure eBay wouldn't do a thing to help me, the seller. I tried everything including offering the guy the same phone with a working flash in exchange. So my question, if I close my bank account associated with eBay, will they send me to collections for refusing the forced return? I intentionally keep my ebay bank account under $500. Is there anyway out of this?

If the listing failed to state the flash was not working, then the buyer has the right to request a return label. eBay typically issues a label with the lowest cost return method, not overnight shipping.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/managing-returns-refunds/return-shipping-sellers?id=4703
"Any time you use an eBay return shipping label, eBay will automatically select the cheapest return option for your item."
"Return shipping labels don’t include insurance. If you want return shipping to be insured, see our section on alternative return shipping options."
If you respond to a formal return request within 3 business days, eBay will refund your final value fee. If you fail to respond, eBay will keep your final value fee and refund the buyer without a return.

Yes. eBay will refund the buyer and collect payment from you, one way or another.
Best approach, if the buyer has opened an eBay case, is to respond within the allotted 3 business days.
