I am looking at an auction item. The listing says that it is protected by the EBay Authenticity Guarantee process. If the auction ends and the item sells for less than $2,000, will this process still take place, or will the buyer just send it directly to me? Since the auction is already labeled with the guarantee, I would hope that it will still happen, however the fine print says that only sales over $2K qualify. Seems like a gray area. Kinda need to know in order to bid with confidence. Thanks.

@rob42 What type of item are you looking at?
This is the policy page for Authenticity Guaranteed items... the price point varies depending on the item.

It’s a watch auction. Currently well under $2k. The seller says he doesn’t know whether it’s genuine or not, right in the description.
The authenticity guarantee badge is displayed. As a bidder, I would assume that I am protected. Fine print says that I’m only protected if the bidding goes over $2k?
if it’s a fake, it could be worth $40. If it’s real, it could be worth over $2,000.
Obviously, if I receive the item and it turns out to be fake, then authenticity guarantee badge was very misleading.

@rob42 I agree with you that it is a confusing having the Authenticity Guaranteed showing on the listing when it may not reach the $2k sale price.
If you do purchase it without it going through the authenticity guarantee and it turns out to be fake you can return it at the sellers expense within 30 days of the sale using the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Reason for return would be doesn't seem authentic. This not only gets your money back but also goes on the sellers record.
