Auction Auto-Pay Problems

I put in a bid on an item earlier today with the intention of coming back a couple of hours later to put in the payment after I had been to the local shops to buy some things.... came back home to find the ebay system has automatically taken a payment from my card.
** But the payment has come off the WRONG CARD **

The card itself was in a wallet that was stolen and so the card was cancelled 4 weeks ago. Since then I have paid for a different ebay purchase using another card, so at the very least this new card should have been used as the default payment method. When I go to the shopping basket, it still shows the auction listed as "proceed to checkout", but on the checkout page it reads "we have automatically paid for you using card xxxx", which won't have gone through because the bank will decline the payment.

I assume this auto-pay malarkey is revolving around ebay being desperate to collect their fees, however the mechanism seems to have been rushed out for auctions and is clearly not working fully. Plus what happens if I buy something for a family member using their card, does the next auto-pay aution then start taking payments from their card without permission? Seems a bit of a stupid idea.

You can see all the cards connected to your eBay account, and add or delete them here:

https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list

Note particularly which card is labeled as "Last used for checkout" or "Used for offers and auctions".

Make sure that any info on that page is correct and up to date.

Auction Auto-Pay Problems

the thing is that doesn't really help in this case, because the "last used for checkout" card should have been the one which was processed and yet it wasn't.

But really the bigger issue is that there was nothing shown on the auction page that it was an auto-pay auction. Right next to the "Place Bid" button should be a blue box and text stating "payment will be taken from {xxxx card} if bid is successful" - because during the bidding process, particularly in the last few seconds of an auction, a very very small line of text on a dialogue box which only briefly pops up goes unnoticed. Autopay for Offers/Buy-it-Now seems fine, but the rollout for auctions seems to have been rushed through without analysing all possible variables.
