I just sold an $16 item, heavy item, $18 shipping, and Ebay charged me $5.61 for the transaction fee. They charge me a fee based upon the sales price and the shipping charge, which seems wrong. They should only charge on the sales price, the shipping charge is a wash. With that being said, it's policy, so does anybody have any tips on reducing the transaction fee?

The final value fee is based on the price of the item + shipping + tax. There is an additional 30 cent transaction fee. There is no work around. Sorry.

eBay isn't processing part of the transaction, they are processing the whole transaction. Therefore the fee is based on the whole transaction (which is customary for payment processors).
Everyone would like to pay lower fees (I would like to have free groceries and gasoline too), but eBay publishes it's fee schedule and you agree to it when you sell on eBay.

You need to build the fees into your pricing as you do all of your costs of doing business.
