Small Wooden Boxes with Sliding Lid (and air holes)

I have a box of items from a very well traveled woman's estate and I am down to the items that seem to be of asian origin... and I am at a loss. 🙂 Help and patience is appreciated. 

These small boxes - wooden with 2 sliding sides and a sliding bottom. Open on both ends with a sort inlaid vent

These are probably Japanese,I have seen these boxes before without the glass panel,off hand I CANT recall what it is for,if it is think to contain cigarettes or use for caligraphy.

You can ask for advice from some Japanese websites,they should go for a pretty penny/
