Looking for Creative Types to Interview

Hi Fellow ACEOers, I'm writing a book proposal on parenthood for creative types and I'm looking for creative types to interview. In the book I will be discussing the challenges artists, writers etc face being parents of young children. How do we satisfy our creative drive, when little ones demand so much of our time and energy? I have a one year old and a three year old and I find it's a daily struggle to find even short windows of time to pursue my creativity. I can't wait to here how others handle this. Please email me if you are willing to be interviewed. I'd like to get a good cross section of people.. Men, women, writers, artists, musicians, dancers etc. Even if your children are grown, I would like to hear from you on how you handled the early years. Email at christina@popgoestheeasel.ca Regards, Christina Friedrichsen www.intimate-weddings.com

ahahah I could write my own book on this topic! I have five of the little buggers running around. One story that comes to mind is I allowed my son..at the time 7 to help me with my cards. He opted to want to spray them with the CLEAR acrylic, so after showing him how to finely go over them with a mist I turned him loose on a grouping of five cards laid out. I left the studio only for a moment to refill my coffee cup and heard the sound of psssss and then nothing. I thought to myself, well that was pretty good. (Figured he got bored as he came into the kitchen with a proud, "I'm done mommy" and scurried out to play) I returned to my studio only to find that he had thickly coated them all with the WHITE paint that I use to prime my cards with. Back to the drawing board. UGH! skyM :) and yes, he's still alive and well

Mine are 7 & 10 and ACEOs have been a perfect outlet for them as well. (I was given Valentine ones last weekend) I include them in almost everything. Ideas, what they want to see, I "hook them up" with supplies...they copy me. (Unfortunately my oldest is now opting for supplies like MOM which are expensive...but grammie is "hooking" her up in that dept) Yours are young enough to give them lower quality "supplies" for the time being. My little one is thrilled to death just to sharpen pencils. We had a disaster there though was when my Prismacolors went into the electric pencil sharpener and were "eaten". One of the biggest problems is their complaints they can't get things to look like mommy's. (Which my husband then announces my age and says I've had more practice, thank you hubby for reinforcing I'm old.) I also take them to the library and get loads of art books. Oh Sky, 5! I don't think I could do it. 2 keeps me busy enough.

Looking for Creative Types to Interview

Over Christmas I went down to Florida. Driving with my son and his wife and mingling with his family my son made the statement about how much he longed to be allowed to sit in the 'passenger' seat of my car - saying that he must be the only kid on earth not to be able to do that. Of course he did .... sometimes... But most of the time, my passenger seat was my 'office' - I sketched houses for real estate companies, and often drove 100 miles in a day, and couldn't leave my son at home if he was out of school, so he came with me ... in the back seat. I remember him always asking if he could sit up front.

What you all really need is a wife. (ducking) My last of 4 (kids, not wives) just left the nest. Waited 20 years and a little more creative time was finally freed up.

You can share my three if they don't sunshine. Mick I'm throwing nothing at you - I definitely DO need a wife, and my husband would agree. It's either art OR housekeeping so far as I'm concerned. And usually housework does not fascinate me for long....

I'm with you Sal, and I don't mean about the 3 kids! :) (Oh, and I don't have a husband, but if I did, I'm sure he'd say that, too.)

I not only had to balance taking care of my hyperactive son, but had to throw into that mix a disabled father as well. My father was more demanding & more bother than my son was. :P I was able to be creative and be a stay-at-home mom by doing piecework for another creative person (this person CLEARED over $100,000/yr in craft sales!) I learned a LOT about the business side of things from her. Didn't like being slave labor, but I did learn a lot about what sold & how to keep accounts & such. Quite useful now. My son is also a creative soul, so that helped. He learned to sew at an early age, and is a whiz with the computer graphics, as well as tradtional types of art. We've even been talking about doing collabritave works now that he's all grown up. (I think it's pretty cool that he still wants to work with his mom, even at the age of 27! 😄 )
