Help! I'm new and need resources..

HI all, I am new to this whole venue, thanks to Jillian and need resources. I've seen that some of you place your ACEO's in acid free clear sleeves. Where do you get them? Is this the recommended way to package? Thanks, Sheryl

another place you can find plastic sleeve is at a place that sells candy making supplies..believe it of not. THere are plastic bags available in all sizes for candy! I bought some awhile back when I was dipping half pretzels in chocolate or peanut butter and coating them after that wil chopped nuts, etc... The bags were great ! So I've been using them for the cards also!. Also most craft stores sell packages of bags for craft items...just look for them. Those type are zip lock. I have made my own gift cards and put them in the bags for sale or storage. So I have a good supply of all sizes and there is one perfect for aceos! karen

Thanks for the tip Karen, but I believe those are not acid-free. Not only that they are about the same price as the ones that are, so it's worth looking for the true trading card sleeves. Usually the zip-lock type are definitely not acid free. For selling I buy from clearbags dot com - or there are some suppliers on ebay.

Hey there, I was on Amazon this week, looking under HOME, then found a whole section under art supplies! They actually sold a pack of ATC blank cards! With a description of what art cards are, etc. They sell various paper, Micron pens, collage items, paper cutters (one that is 12" x 12" that I was eye-ing). Who'd of thunk it? Amazon with ACEO supplies. Oh, and the bags from the candy making aisle at my Michaels Store, are pvc -acid free. Says on the package, so make sure when you buy. Mel

I haven't seen this eBay store mentioned yet, but I bought some precut ACEO stock: watercolor & bristol papers and scratchboard, from "ruralljs" store. Prices seem good and everything was cut exactly to size. She has lots of pre-cut supplies and I think some sleeves too. And don't forget, Jillian has items in her store as well. I also recommend clearbags dot com for sleeves - just don't buy item #B2PC thinking they'll fit ACEOs - they're listed as 2.5 x 3.5, but they're exactly that - no extra room. The ones I like are #B23CNF. -Ann

Am I the only one doing aceo's that cuts AFTER I do the drawing? I start with a piece of piece of paper that is about 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". I have cardboard and plastic frames cut to aceo size. After drawing, I "try" the frame in several different positions, then cut the card. I sign the card after cutting. Is this like cheating? ?:| Jana

Not cheating. You end up with a card the proper size, so it's fine. There are some that I don't cut first, but I'm always afraid I'll mess up on the cut and ruin the finished piece.

Of course it's not cheating Jana. You do whatever works for you. But I'm the same as drawdog5, I'm always afraid of cutting the final work wrongly. 🙂

I've been using some nice matt board ones from a seller here on eBay. They are very sturdy. I also use acid free Bristol board starting with full size sheets. I do a trace around a card for the size then do the artwork in the space, allowing me to go over the edges. After completion I can go back and retrace the card edge then cut. I find it easier to handle the big sheet than trying to keep a small one from moving around when I am drawing on it. I seem to be getting about 3 to a full page by turning it around between drawings. I cut the drawing out before moving on to the next, so the sheet shrinks as I go.

The cards that Jillian sells are ,on purpose, slightly longer than 3.5. I tape them, with masking tape, to the back of a 5 x 7 canvas board. When I'm finished, I just measure and cut the two edges. The canvas board makes a good working surface and the cards don't slip around.. Marlene
