Dare Responsibility Question

OK I've been clicking from pillar to post(heh, heh)trying to find Dare #34 listing on e-bay. I got nothing when I searched ART>ACEO Dares...I firmly believe Dare Givers have a responsibility to bid on Dare Takers art. BUT I SURE DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIND IT!!! We are now on Dare #37. Dare #34 has probably ended already. What sequence of words transports me to a DARE listing? Or is it simply intermingled with 300 other Aceo listings? Sorry I am so inexperienced at this time. Respondez vous. jane1234art

Dare Responsibility Question

If you want to find all the "dare" art cards that are available, you can do a search on "aceo dare" in the self-representing artist category: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&fcl=3&catref=C6&satitle=aceo+... It will turn up anything with those two words in the title. If you want to see what a particular artist listing and the auction is over, you click on "advanced search" at the top of the listing page, then choose "items by seller" and type in the seller's name, and click the box that says "include completed listings" then you should find what a particular artist listed in the past. While I also believe that it's good form for a darer to bid on an item, what if the artist prices it out of budget? I still think that the artist should concentrate on using the challenge in such a way that people other than the original darer would be interested in bidding. De rien. 🙂

Dare Responsibility Question

I went and found this in another discussion. This was Jillian's post, regarding this subject. **** artistjillian (625 ) 08/14/06 10:16 AM (#36 of 37) This was discussed when setting up the dares - for one, we cannot do it that way because of 'shill bidding' rules. But over and above that I have deliberately set it up so that each dare set has 5 unique dare givers. This gives greater variety and opportunity to challenge the dare takers. Anyone who knows me, or anything about me is that I try to make things 'fair'. For one reason or another, not all circumstances for all dare givers are the same, be it business, financial, or even personal tastes or beliefs. Therefore the rules will never include expecting a dare-giver to bid on a card. If they can, that is exceptionally nice. But there is no 'obligation' to this side of things. There is also NO directive re pricing, again, this is another instance of recognising the diverse group we are, with varying circumstances. ~Jillian *** Hope this helps. Bettina

Dare Responsibility Question

You can also check out the photo albums. Each dare has it's own album, with the 5 dares in it. If you are interested in a particular dare, you can contact the person who created it. Some dare takers have even opted not to list, for various reasons - some because it bought out some elements that were 'keepers'. This is a fun thing. I don't want anyone harbouring resentments or pointing fingers, and yet at the same time I like for people to 'play fair'. I'd love to see all dares bid on, but this is a far from perfect world and there are far too many reasons that trying to enforce that is not an option. It could also cause some people to enter dares JUST to get a work sold, for instance - they also may not be inclined to put as much effort into their creation if they know it's sold. OT would also inhibit some good ideas from creative minds that can come up with great ideas for dares, but not care to buy the end result - for whatever reason. I occasionally give a dare, but just can't afford to buy at the moment. Also I believe there is a photo album for 'unsold dares' - please feel free to contact the creator, if you're interested. There is also a 'swap' photo album - same thing. ~Jillian

Dare Responsibility Question

I wouldn't dream of expecting my dare-giver to bid on one of my dare cards....though I'm appreciative when they do because it means they liked it a lot. I'm just happy if my dare-giver tells me that I did a good job, and I'm really happy when anything sells to anyone! 😄

Dare Responsibility Question

You know, that's the real reason I hang around in here....I love pats on the back! Whenever I post one of my ACEOs, I live to hear someone comment on it...whether they bid or not! 🙂

Dare Responsibility Question

Thanks very much for all the responses. We've been having thunder storms and lotsa rain in Hermann, Missouri. I turn off my computer during storms so I am a little late on checking on discussions. Your points are well taken regarding one's obligation to buy...shills, finances vs. pricing, and beliefs all being serious considerations. Thanks again. jane1234art

Dare Responsibility Question

I get really excited when I see the results of me daring someone. 😄 If I wasn't completely broke I probably would have tried to buy them! But I also enjoy taking dares, and I wouldn't demand that the darer buy my card. Like you, ellenillustrates, I am happy with good feedback about my art and tickled when it sells. :^O

Dare Responsibility Question

I am not sure about other artists but I definitely have moments of self-doubt (regarding my skills as an artist)and I second guess my own work (and my customers) again and again. Reading feedback is soooo reasuring. And I am so delightfully surprised when I list a piece for the third time (while saying to myself: "Maybe I need to change this or that or make this a different color..." and on and on) AND SUDDENLY SOMEONE BUYS IT!!!!! Doggone it I knew that piece was OK. Self Doubt...ya gotta love it!

Dare Responsibility Question

I enjoy doing the dares and don't always list my Dares for auction. I do it for fun and to break the out of the norm. 😄 I love the challenge!!! Melinda

Dare Responsibility Question

Melinda, I have to confess... that one that I challenged you to do, the goose on the bike being chased by a wolf is one of my all-time faves. I have it here on my work desk because I find it so cheerful. It reminds me of a really cute children's book illustration, I absolutely love kids books! So that's a dare that keeps on giving. I'd like to think that all kinds of people feel the same way about having acquired art cards they really really like. 🙂
