PhotoShop Help please

Hi everyone- can anyone tell me how to create an 'action' in Photoshop that will allow me to automatically size all my photos to the same print size at one time? And/or how to make it work as a print size? Thank you in advance! Rose

Hi Rose, I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I'm going to try answering anyways! Forgive me if I'm telling you what you already know... In Photoshop, I use the "image size" to set the image dimensions in inches (or cm). In the case of ACEO's, I find it easiest to take the larger dimension and set it at 3.5 inches, then crop if necessary to make the other dimension 2.5 inches. I don't know if there is a way to do this automatically for several images without opening them, if there is then I'd like to know too! In addition to the print size, there is the pixel dimensions, which is determined by the actual (print) size and the resolution. To convert inch to pixels, just multiply the inch size by the pixel resolution (e.g. an ACEO of 2.5 x 3.5 inches at 150 pixels/inch resolution will have a 369 x 522 pixel dimension. If the image is in grayscale mode, the pixel dimension is roughly equivalent to the product od length and width in pixels (369 * 522 = 192 K). If the image is in RGB mode, then the pixel dimensions will be 3 times as big because each color chanel will have a 192 K pixel dimension. If you upload a picture on a server and use that image in listings or threads, the image size on the screen will depend on the pixel dimension it was saved as and/or uploaded as. To resize an image online just specify the image width in pixels. For example: will limit the width to 300 pixels. (replace the square brackets with pointy ones < >) OK, so did I succeed in making a fool of myself :-)? let me know! Isa

no, Isa, you are no fool. I have that part well in hand, I was just hoping I could learn to set an 'action' to make my printing easier. some of my aceo's are printed thru an outside source, and I am trying to trim costs. my printer sent a 'blooper' sheet of prints (she did them on the wrong side of the paper) and EVERY photo was the perfect size! maybe she has a different program altogether, because printing is her business. Just trying to find a way to profit a bit, rather than break even...aren't we all?LOL! Rose

Oh, now I understand! I would love to know how to do that! Now when I want to print several ACEO's on a piece of paper I insert the high resolution jpeg files into a Powerpoint presentation, resize them as needed, then print one letter page at a time (which easily fits 9 ACEO's with a custom size of 8.5 x 11"). But if there is a way to do it automatically that would be great. Kelly, let me know what you find out! Isa

the kodak software had it but there was an upgrade so now I lost it...the other day I almost had this ability on photoshop but cant remember the process right this minute...tired...so are you asking, Rose, about creating a contact sheet and you want your contact sheet to hold 9 images to fit on standard sized paper? we always had our contact sheets be 35mm film size before when using 35 mm format...now we have more freedom sizing our contact sheets since our cameras are film free!:)

It's me again. photosbyrose4u, my son typed the following: ************************ photosbyrose4u: If you have Photoshop CS2 you can go to File>Automate>Contact Sheet II to get a sheet full of photos at whatever size you need. If you really need to create an action you need to hit Alt+F9 (to open the actions panel if it isn't open already), then click the new icon. Name your action. Now from this point on if you hit the record button, it will be recording your actions. If you open any file and play this action, it will do the exact same thing you did to whatever image you had open when you recorded it. Also if you create the action right you can then play this action on batch items through adobe bridge(this means resizing multiple images in a folder etc.). Here are is a tutorial. Maybe it will give you more ideas. http://www.spoono.com/photoshop/tutorials/tutorial.php?id=13 ******************** I hope this helps!!! Kelly

I use the automate contact sheet to print a page of photographic ACEO's -- I set it so it's a "smidgeon" oversize so I can trim them without danger of white space around them. I also use that option for printing a contact sheet of ones I've painted so I will have a permanent record of all the ACEO's I've done, in a notebook album to carry with me. (when I showed that to my sisters, one wanted to know "but if you've sold these, how is it that you still have them in the album?") If you just want to resize a bunch of photos, I think there's something called "batch" processing, but I haven't tried using that. Sue

I got this reply on the ebay photo forum! i think I've got it now! woohoo!!! A couple of different ways to achieve this: 1. Download Irfanview. Free program with an easy-to-use batch process that can resize all your pics at the same time. Use the rename feature to preserve your originals, and drop the resized pics into a new folder. www.irfanview.com Determine the "output" folder and the originating folder, set advanced options to resize and rename, and click OK. This free program is fast and easy. 2. In Photoshop, click on "File", then scroll down to "Automate", then "Contact Sheet II". This feature will take images from a folder and create a multi-photo contact sheet. You can determine orientation, how many rows and how many columns you want to have based on paper size, and quality. With a little calculating, you should be able to approximate 2.5"x3.5". If you want to be exact, use "Automate" and look for the "Batch" process. This is similar to the one in Irfanview and will let you resize entire folders easily. Once you have created your contact sheet(s), you can simply print those pages with all your images on the same sheet. 3. Another way is to record an action where you must perform the steps you wish the program to repeat. This will be slower than a batch process.
