Art that is not for sale, just to share! #2

Good morning, all. LOVE this art! Great stuff! I appreciate you sharing with us all. Here is something that Susan wanted me to post for her (jazmin) so I will...it's a piece of colored pencil art that she found in an artist's blog...it really is quite amazing. and the little bit of info that goes with it... Still life based on Dutch master March 10, 2008 by ranjini I just completed this still life, its a tribute to the old dutch masters with a lot of dramatic lighting and shadows. I did a bit of reading before I started on this subject and also recieved a lot of insight from my artist friend/mentor Arlene Steingberg. One of the most prominent things that the dutch masters followed was chirascuro- the contrasting effect of dark and light. Many Dutch painters drew inspiration from the art of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1573-1610), the great innovator working in Rome who made chiaroscuro the principal means of expression in his art. Pieter Claesz, was one of the most prominent painters in this appealing and still-popular genre and one of my favourites along with Willem Kalf & Jan Davidsz. de Heem. This work is on pastel board too, I used some inktense along with my usual neocolor underpainting. I don’t seem to like them since I am not able blend in my pencils very smoothly over them with my brush. I don’t have a fancy camera that could catch a candle behind a distorted glass, so I had to do that from life. I learnt a lot while doing this piece and it was a lot of fun. Still life with oranges - 24×13.5 - neocolors/inktense and cp’s You know I can't post a link here but you can google these names and find it I'm sure. Not difficult. There is alot of great work there, I had a ball browsing through the other artist's work. Some of the other artists there are: * Ann kullberg * Arlene Steinberg * Austin Maloney * Bob Ebdon * Gemma Gylling * Holly Bedrosian * Katherine Ellis * Nicole Caulfield * Paula Pertile Illustration * Peggy stermer cox * Wendy Prior Very good stuff! Thanks Susan for bringing this info forward! Kelly

Awww the puppy image broke -- probably a space in the filename or too long a filename, knowing Photobucket. I did some sketching in my sketchbook instead of on ACEO blanks, and did an entire page of hand studies. I started it on Thursday night and continued it today while Sascha and I watched "Walking with Monsters." The bottom left sketch is of my left hand holding the sketchbook, not a copy of one of Giovanni Civardi's lessons. The rest are from "Complete Guide to Drawing" by the Italian classical realist. Hand studies page Then because we were watching "Walking with Monsters, I halted the video at the start of the second program when the giant spider was creeping up over the nest of hatching baby lizards and finally sketched the giant spider. I remember a photo reference posted here of a spider with similar huge colorful palps (in the show they're bright red). So here's my take on Mesothelae, a native of Kansas back in the Devonian: Spider sketch -- robertsloan2art -- original ACEO, OSWOA and larger artwork. I used an Ebony pencil for all the sketches and they scan better with it, because it's darker than even a high B grade pure graphite pencil. I used to love doing Ebony pencil drawings back in high school. -- robertsloan2art -- original ACEO, OSWOA and larger artwork. A big part of life is recognizing that creativity is human. May, Did you see all the photos of him? Wendy made an album with them in it. I'm not sure if the album is here or in our other aceo group ( aceo yba) but you're welcome over there too :) -- ~ Susan Visit my ME page to see my current listings, or...

Re: Art that is not for sale, just to share! #2

I am helping my son with a sculpture contest for the local library called, "Catch the Reading Bug." It has to be made out of 50% or more recycled materials and have a bug theme. Here is a journal I made to go along as part of the piece...ours will be called "The Reading Nest." Made from chocolate raffia, cereal box, newsprint a real leaf, bronze eyelets and construction paper. I'll post the completed sculpture later. The bugs I am going to help him make will be made from (unused) natural coffee filters. They are the same color as a brown paper bag but much more airy and mallable. -- ~Sabrina

Fantastic Stuff everyone!! That puppy is great Susan! I haven't made very many dogs and I haven't ever tried to sell a paper sculpture dog on ebay... I wonder if I should try expanding into the dog market... Here are 2 of the 3 I have made... A pug and a boxer... Matthew
