Trying to understand Listing Visability changes...and I'm still confused.

I've read the FAQ's in the Spring Seller Update more than once, and I've also read some answers on this thread:

http://community.ebay.com/t5/2017-Spring-Seller-Update/Removing-3rd-party-ads-Wait-No-were-not/m-p/2...

What I think I'm reading is:

1) 3rd party promotional listing ads with photos will no longer appear on listing  pages as of May 1st.

2) 3rd party promotional listing ads without photos  (in a yet-to-be-seen text format) will be seen on the site after May 1st.

3) The 3rd party ads with photos will be replaced on listings by promotional ads with photos from eBay sellers of multi-quantity items.

4) There are no restrictions about who these ads from eBay sellers can come from--like Chinese sellers, for instance.

5) There is a chance, maybe, perhaps, that by May 1st promotional ads will be allowed for single quantity items and be visible on the site.  They are not allowed now.

Where am I wrong on the above?   What am I missing?

You can start with the heading on that section of the Seller's Update.

Removal of prominent third party ads to elevate your promoted listings

It's like trying to follow politics today.  Someone at ebay has been watching too much of Kellyanne.  Baffle 'em with B*.  Does anyone anymore just come out and say what they mean??????  What happened to straight forward??   Why make a puzzle of things?????

Thank you.

I've already read that section several times (along with the FAQ's).

It is the section's last sentence: "Limited third-party advertisements will continue to be displayed." that started me wondering exactly what will be happening.

It just means what it says.  They aren't completely closing the door to 3rd party ads, they just aren't going to let them be so over shadowing as they have been in the past.  They are going to allow their sellers to have more of a visable presence.  Which is long overdo.

However, we really need to wait until it gets started to really see what they truly mean.  We have all been disappointed before by Ebay saying one thing and doing something completely different.

You're kidding, right?

A straight out answer might give away the plot!  It might reveal a Corp. secret and give away where the body is hidden!

'Sides, nobody there has finished the plot outline, yet.

You have it mostly correct. Here are clarifying details:

We are only removing third-party product listing ads. A product listing ad (PLA) is a sponsored link ad that features a product image, price, and advertiser name, and takes the buyer off site when clicked. We’re investing in our sellers by making these placements available to promoted listings users, giving more sellers an opportunity to increase visibility for their items.

Third-party text based ads and graphical banner ads will continue to be displayed. A text-based ad is a sponsored link format ad that features a title, description, and advertiser name. A display banner ad features graphics and clickable images.

Promoted listings was only available to Store subscribers with multi-quantity listings up until now. With this seller release we are opening promoted listings to non-store eTRS sellers starting 4/1. We are also currently beta testing promoted listings for fixed price single quantity items and hope to release it in time when the changes take go into effect.

Thank you!

I think the key word is "product ads". Product ads are being removed while other advertisements ("Adword Ads") may still remain. In Google definitions, here is the difference:

adwords-vs-plas

The baseball bats adwords ads is very general. The product ads show the exact model and price. I think the intent is there shouldn't be any product ads in your listings competing for the exact same or similar widget that would lead a buyer offsite to purchase. Generalized ads are OK.  "Sale on cell phones" or "Get a car insurance quote" instead of "Buy the thing you are looking at for $10 less on this other website". That was my interpretation in any case.

The opinions expressed are mine, and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.

@shefs_promotedlistings

Thank you for this piece of clarification.

I wish it had been in the seller update announcement text itself.

The first sentence of that section:

"We’re removing third-party product listing ads across the eBay platform effective May 1, 2017.",

when combined with the last sentence of that section:

"Limited third-party advertisements will continue to be displayed.",

confused me.

@ebuycdn

Thank you for providing pictures of another site's distinction between text ads and product listing ads.

I will be interested to see what eBay's versions looks like.
