Love the 'asking for a friend' questions. To be honest, it's been so long since I made my account that I don't remember the procedure. Initially, I signed up to buy, but don't think I used a third party to do it.
With that being said, did your girlfriend sign up to sell here? If so, she is likely onboarding with Managed Payments so that she can be paid if and when she sells something. If memory serves, there is a third party involved to verify banking info.
