Today's the day to start a whole new vista of Vs!
Can we find some of the interesting philatelia to illustrate this letter? Let's give it an old college try! We did get a goodly run of Us last week.

"V" is for Venezuela. Below I'm showing the first 6 pages comprising the 19th century issues. You are not likely to see a more complete 19th century collection of major Scott numbers for this country. Last I knew there were only 34 known examples of the 1880 25B stamp (third page, last stamp in 4th row). Airmail and B.O.B issues can be seen HERE.

"V" is for Vlad and Vampire. Issued in 1959 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the founding of Bucharest. The stamp features
Vlad III Dracula better known these days, thanks to Bram Stoker, as the first of the Vampires. Although he practiced some rather nasty acts of violence he is regarded as one of the greatest heros of Romania. Not sure how many of these Souvinir sheets were issued but they are rather scarce and probably the highest valued sheet from Romania.
