I was just told in a chat from an eBay agent that only auctions for autographed items that are pre-authenticated by one of their approved authenticators are allowed to be listed. He said that if the item is not already authenticated, it will be removed to protect the buyer.
What kind of foolishness is this?

OK, just so I'm clear, I can not post anything unless it is first authenticated by a 3rd party authenticator. I have that correct?

And yes you need to get your item authenticated first by the eBay approved authenticators only to list the items.
